Head of School September 2022 Message

September 2, 2022

Aloha Ho`ala ‘Ohana,

I hope this email finds you well as our third week of school ends and we enter the Labor Day Weekend.  The purpose of this message is to share information about the Ho`ala School Handbook (attached and available on the school’s website; click on the “About Us” tab and check under “Parent Resources).”  The Handbook is a compendium of the school’s policies and procedures as well as the history and philosophy of the school.  Please take the time to review the Handbook with your child or children.  Allow me to highlight a few sections of the Handbook that have been updated.  Pages –

  •  5-9: Parent Information on the Ho`ala School Agreement System;
  • 9-11: Attendance Policy (particularly unexcused absences or late to school);
  • 14-17: The Ho`ala School Dress Code;
  • 25-26: After-school Enrichment Programs (and how parents/legal guardians can get involved in the life of the school);
  • 27-28: Academic Policies and Procedures; and
  • Page 35: 2022-2023 Faculty and Staff contact information.

I want to thank the PTSO, Emma, Kelley, and company, for supporting this year’s first Frozen Treat Friday (FTF).  FTF takes place every other Friday (students must remember to bring their dollar).  The first meeting of the PTSO is this Wednesday, the 7th, 12:00 noon, on campus in the Resource Room.  Don’t miss the PTSO Fall Vendor and Craft Fair, Saturday, September 10th, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  The PTSO is always looking for volunteers so please contact Emma at ptso@hoalaschool.org if you are interested.  In addition, the Education Committee is also looking for participants.  You are welcome to attend the meetings in person or virtually (the first meeting is September 22nd, 5:30 PM).  If you are interested and have not already done so, please contact me either by email at chris@hoalaschool.org or call the office, (808) 621-1898.

Please plan to attend the Parent Back-to-School Night, Wednesday, September 14th, 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  This event is for parents only.  There is no childcare so please make arrangements so at least one parent can attend. The faculty and staff are excited to welcome families back to this wonderful event where you will hear from your child’s/children’s teacher all the exciting things the students are learning this year.  More information about Back-to-School Night is forthcoming; please keep a lookout.

Finally, Ho`ala continues to look for an individual to supervise the Ho`ala Plus morning program, 6:00 to 8:00 AM. This is a paid position; if you are interested, please contact either Darlene (Darlene@hoalaschool.org) or myself (chris@hoalaschool.org) or call the office (808) 621-1898.

Thank you, again, for choosing Ho`ala.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or stop by the office.

Warm regards,

Chris
